850 Bryant Street Pt. 2

Part 2 of a 2 part series exploring the halls of The Hall of Justice….

Signs, signs, everywhere are signs. My favorite one (above) asking me not to trespass.

850 Bryant Street Pt. 1

Part 1 of a 2 part series exploring the halls of The Hall of Justice….

If The Hall of Justice=Lots of Cops and Lots of Cops=High Levels of Security, then surely one would not be able to wander the facility aimlessly for 2 hours snapping fotos of anything and everything in sight, right?

Wrong. I found myself with some time to kill at 850 Bryant and decided to walk around and fotograph as much of this 1960s marble labyrinth as possible. I tried to move fast assuming it was only a matter of time before the eye-in-the-sky spotted me and asked me to leave — immediately after confiscating my new digi-cam.

The secret to my success? There was no one there. Not anyone. No cops. No lawyers. No plaintiffs. No defendants. No judges. No bailiffs. Only me and my new camera.

Yard Massive

Another MUNI bus yard at 17th and Bryant in The Mission sector.

Sight-Ems

Seen at Cortland and Ellsworth in the Bernal Heights sector.

The Sun Princess

One very big boat pulled up to Pier 30/32 yesterday afternoon.

The numbers: 77,000 tons, 1950 passengers, 1700 rooms, 165 slot machines, 4 swimming pools, 2 movie theaters, and 1 basketball court.

GridSkipper Interview

Recently we were contacted by GridSkipper to do a two-part email interview about our bloggy-blog.

The first part is me talking about why I would rather live here than anywhere else on The Planet. In the second part we break down our 10 favorite spots to kick it.

Thanks to Brittany for hookin this up!!

One Of These Days

From time to time, the daily foto-blog-grapher will worry about running out of “posts” for his space.

“Some day,” he cries neurotically at regular intervals, “some day Im gonna sit down in front of this computer with a blank space staring me in the face, and have nothing to post about. Nothing. Lets face it. Who can fill such a space day after day?”

So, today I resorted to the most time-honored trick in the trade, and snapped a foto of the first thing I saw.

Thread Show SF

Its my birthday and Im old, fat, and balding. So where do I decide to spend the first half of this “most special of days”? With a bunch of young, skinny folks that own full heads of hair.

Enter Thread Show SF.

Word Up!! to HUF for the free Tecate:

Barry Bonds Has Left The Building

No more Barry on TV, no more Barry at Ye Olde Ballpark.

Yesterday the SF Giants officially said “Peace Out” to Mr. Bonds. To add insult to injury, his last game as a Giant will be played in Los Angeles. And to make things even worse — Mark Ecko plans on sending #756 into outer space.

Its been a dark week for baseball in The City of San Francisco.

The Sun Rises In The East

Around 630a on The EMB, looking towards Treasure Island.

SPOne aka Greg Lamrarche

Seen last nite at The W Hotel on Howard @ 3rd — some very small art in some very small art gallery.

Get Busy

Greg Lamarche is the king of cut n paste. Originally a graffiti artist, he went legit 5 years ago to reach a broader audience. Whatever the case, the typography is ill and full of color.

Going Back To Cali

Foto by Plug2

Its nice to be back in The City. And its nice to have Southwest flying directly into SFO.

Out Of Office

As much as I dislike leaving The Bay, Plug2 and me are headed back to The Motherland for a 4-day weekend.

In the meantime enjoy this pretty rad commercial….

All Your Base Are Belong To Us

Im not sure exactly what these things are for, but I like to pretend they protect us from Oakland.

Imperial Walkers sighted at 20th and Illinois near Pier 70.

Six Innings With Frank Chu

I left work yesterday with 2 extra tix to the 7:15 pm Giants game….and….then….ran into the homey Frank Chu around 6:45pm….

“Yo, Frank. Wanna free tick??”
“Sure”
“Here Ya Go”

I get inside and Frank is already chillin in his seat. We talked sports for a bit. You gotta give dude a chance: hes got more to talk about than intergalactic mayhem, thats for sure.

After the sixth inning, we headed down to Acme Chophouse to enjoy a cold frosty one. He informed me that most of the Local Media is against him, but I already knew that.

Frank hands me his card, says “Thanks” and heads towards BART. After protesting every single day since 1998, he must be tired.

UPDATE:
Our friends at SFist.com picked up this post, and gave us front and center. Niooooce.

Mother and Child

North of Cupids Arrow on The EMB are two butt-ugly, rusty statues named “Mother and Child.” Installed in June of 06, these things originally premiered at Burning Man — the annual drug-fueled hippy convention in the desert.

Last week, we found a third one passed out on a roof, next to The MOMA on 3rd Street.

Sight-Ems

Seen on 26th Avenue near Lake in The Richmond sector.

Hazy Shade of Winter

“The coldest winter I ever spent — was summer in San Francisco”

While this quote is an accurate descriptor of The Citys temperamental temperatures, there is some dispute on whether or not Mark Twain ever actually muttered these words.

What we know for sure is this: weather comes to us here in three seasons — winter, summer, and fog.

Sight-Ems

Seen (or scene) at Carl and Cole in the Cole Valley sector.

Romelo Alley

Downtown looking South down Romelo towards Broadway in the North Beach sector.

Sight-Ems

Seen at Crescent and Moultrie in the Bernal Heights sector.

Cupid’s Span

You either love it or you hate it. I side with the latter.

In November of 2002, a 60 ft chunk of plaster landed on The Embarcadero waterfront in the shape of a bow and arrow. Sculpted by Swedish artists Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen, it was gifted to The City by Gap founder Don Fisher.

For a pretty sweet panoramic view of the installation, click here.

Bay Area Backroads: Pescadero

2 miles West of Pescadero is, errr, Pescadero State Beach.

And 2 miles South of Pescadero State Beach is the Pigeon Point Light Station, one of the oldest and tallest in California.

Check out Weekend Sherpa for some great day trip ideas.

Bay Area Backroads: Pescadero

“Take A Vacation — Get Away From It All!!” blinks the unwelcome message in my inbox. But I am in no hurry to get away from it all. In fact the more Ive seen outside of The Bay Area, the less of a hurry I am in.

Another email that frequents my inbox comes from Doug McConnell @ Bay Area Backroads. This is more like it — leaving The City, without leaving The Bay.

Located an hour down The Central Coast, Pescadero is an old town with an old town feel. The “business district” is exactly one block long, beginning at the church and ending at Duarte’s Tavern.

!!! * CLOSED * !!!

If you have no TV, have no internets, cant read signs, or just got out of 850 Bryant, well, then this might be news to you:

The Bay Bridge will be closed for 81 hours — starting tonite at 8pm thru Tuesday morning at 5am. The purpose of the 3-day closure is to retrofit the Yerba Buena Viaduct and hook up some more FasTrak lanes.

CalTrans has launched an impressive marketing campaign to get the word out to almost every person in California. Theyve run TV/radio ads at an irritating rate, and notices about the closure have been flashing on 100s of electric freeway signs from Southern California to The Bay Area. BART will be running 24/7, just in case youre dying to go to Oakland.
