Los Angeles Victorians

Carroll Avenue is one of Los Angeles oldest suburbs, located in Echo Park’s Angelino Heights. The two-block sector consists of homes built in the early 1900’s as private mansions for Hollywood’s rich and famous.

The row consists of Victorian-era houses, many of which are now used for movies and television shows, including: “Charmed”, “Journeyman” and even as the backdrop for Michael Jackson’s music video “Thriller”.

The neighborhood was once called home by such high class folks as old City Councilman Daniel Innes. Other people you’ve never heard of that lived there at one time include merchant Aaron P. Philips (1887), real estate agent Charles C. Haskin (1894), and warehouse operator Michael Sanders (1887).

Fast forward to 2008 and you find that the majority of the homes have been flipped/renovated/updated/restored to their original states. They also serve as a convenient alternative to filming on location for San Francisco sectors such as Alamo Square, South Van Ness (18-20th St), Potrero Hill, and Noe Valley.

Journeyman was actually filmed in San Francisco’s FD as well approx. a year ago or maybe a little longer? They were there for a while, at least a week or two, maybe longer.

“The two-block sector consists of homes built in the early 1800’s as private mansions for Hollywood’s rich and famous.” LA wasn’t even part of the US in the early 1800s and Hollywoodland hadn’t even been dreamed of yet.
@ Spidra Webster: arrghh! you’re right, 1800 would be impossible…have updated post.
